Kenneth Thomas’ Podcast Obsessions

Kenneth Thomas

Kenneth Thomas - Kenneth Thomas presents Obsessions

Kenneth Thomas

Kenneth Thomas is without doubt one of the most promising young DJs in the electronic scene right now. There’s an intelligence and a well defined style to his sets. He’s quickly emerging as one to watch in the next generation of superstar DJs”. When Paul Oakenfold has this to say about someone people can tend to stop and take a listen. Following in an elite class consisting of Dave Ralph, D:Fuse & Hernan Cattaneo, its seems every 5 years or so Oakenfold hand picks a future star to take under his wing and the latest selection is Kenneth Thomas. Hailing out of the Detroit, the birthplace of Techno, KT stands out with his emotional and melodic sound. Some might not see the connection of Detroit to his sound, but the connection is there. The same aggression that spawned the early techno sounds of the 90′s is the fuel that fires Kenneth to explore the emotional side of the musical experience. Music has always been a spiritual place for Kenneth and because the depth of dance music goes well beyond a conscious level, there’s an underlying exploration and experience in every set and track.

Beyond traveling the globe, Kenneth has also become a juggernaut in the studio over the past 3 years having completed over 40 tracks and remixes for labels including Baroque, Armada, Om, Perfecto, Cuurve, Alter Ego, Hope and more. Now, busy working on his second EP for Markus Schulzs’ Coldharbour Recordings and coming off recent remixes for David Guetta, Jan Johnston, Oliver Moldan, Jeff Mills and even Scott Wieland, we have seen this ‘Dj at heart’ break new ground in the areas of production. And now beyond DJing & producing, KT is also A&R for Perfecto Records and is helping spearhead the renaissance of one of the greatest labels dance music has ever seen. The future is bright for Kenneth. Touring regularly around the world sharing his blend of progressive minded dance music, his focus has never changed since day one, “This is the most amazing sound I have ever encountered, I just want to share it with as many people as possible.” – The DJ List

What’s Happenin from NY

Hello Everybody!!

Just saying hello! I will be representing the East Coast and Canadian side of the electronic music scenes surrounding Buffalo & Toronto. Living in Buffalo, so much of what I post will be centered on the western NY region, but with the quality of music found out here, that’s not really a problem at all. Buffalo is a hidden gem of techno, house, and electro and is over looked on the national scene for larger spots like NYC. Although there is a lack of national acts visiting the area, the locals make up for it with a true passion and love for the music… And they do it well!

Soon I hope to have another website up with some links to mixes and productions from the guys out here, (maybe later this week) until then…

Peace,

Drew

My Digital Life: May 08 – 2 Disc Summer Trance Mix by l0ckd0wn

Filed under: Art,Culture,Faderwave,Music,Other Blogs,Spotlight: Los Angeles — l0ckd0wn @ 1:13 pm

I am a house head through and through. I seem to flow throughout all forms of house music but every once in a while I need a break and have to pick up the pace a bit. With that I have created this mix to kick off a small series of mixes that I am going to be doing, starting with this month’s release which is focused more on Trance. This compilation is on the speedier side of my musical taste and is great for those summer nights when you are just looking to party! Check it out!

CD1
More of a progressive feel with a bit of trance mixed in.

CD2
This disc really starts to pick up the pace and drenches the listener in trance of new and old!

..:: Casa Da Playa ::.. New 2 Disc Summer CD

I have been meaning to do this for a while now and I finaly got around to doing it this week. I have gone with a 2 disc set this time because I had too many tracks spanning too many genres of house to get it all onto 1 disc.

So any way here it is.*

DISC 1
Funky house and some mainstream club tracks, uplifting and non-serious, ideal for the beach partys.

DISC 2
Deeper vibe that you can dance to or just chill, the ideal way to bring home the sunset.

Both CD’s are 320kbps and fit perfectly onto a CD.

Jimi Hendrix: Legendary Guitarist, Rock Star… Porn Star?

Every once in a while you get a piece of mail in your inbox that is, for lack of another creative adjective, awesome! Today I opened a piece of mail from Urb, a magazine dedicated to all things… well Urb-an. A majority of the topics pertain to Electronic Music or the culture, Hip Hop specifically. Although not to into the Hip Hop “scene,” I do appreciate quite a bit that Urb has to offer. That being said… I found this article in their blog today…

Hendrix: Rock Star turned Porn Star

Hendrix: Rock Star turned Porn Star

Today, April 29th, Vivid Entertainment is launching the online release of the “Jimi Hendrix Sex Tape” for the our viewing pleasure.

Vivid Entertainment is selling the tape as a “sexual documentary”, aka PORN, to give the public some insight into the sex and rock ‘n roll scene of the uninhibited sixties. Founded in 1984, The Vivid Entertainment Group is the world’s leading adult film company – with high emphasis on high quality erotic film entertainment for the couples market. It has created wide brand-name awareness through its films and through licensing and marketing programs that extend to advertising, book publishing, and other consumer products.

Apparently, Vivid obtained this 40 year old footage from a rock ‘n roll memorabilia “collector” (how this person “collected” this tape is yet to be public). The film showcases the icon enjoying some double action brunette loving and reveals Hendrix as more of a “giving” than “receiving” individual – a little too much info for me, but I’ll give you as much info as you need to get you interested in this tape. The company sought several experts to authenticate the footage and the movie features commentary from Pamela Des Barres, author of “I’m with the Band: Confessions of a Groupie” and Cynthia Plaster Caster, famous for creating plaster molds of the penises of rock stars, including Hendrix, who said, “That’s Jimi Hendrix’ d*ck and I should know”.

Let’s face it, comments are better from the pros who’ve “been there and done that”.

Vivid co-chairman Steven Hirsch states, “This new movie shows that Jimi Hendrix could have been as great a porn star as he was a rock star.”

I guess he was a great porn star, we just didn’t have the proof until now.

Those who want to get their hands on it will have to wait until May 6th, but I have a feeling those hard copies will come sooner rather than later – can anyone say “bootleg”?

For more info, go to www.hendrixsextape.com.

What Happened in Piedmont, Utah?

So I see a billboard on the way to a friends place last Friday while on the freeway… It Reads…

What happened in Piedmont, Utah?

www.whathappenedinpiedmont.com

So as I continued my 35min drive to my buddy’s place, I contemplated what the hell this could mean for the remaining 25min that I was going to be in the car… Could it be something big that I missed in the news? Could it be a non-profit organazation trying to bring to light some conspiracy? Am I really wasting this much time wondering what is on a fucking billboard?

So I did what any person with a wee amount of curiosity could have done… I went to the site. This is the first post from www.whathappenedinpiedmont.com.

Okay. I’m likely overreacting, and it’s probably nothing. A couple days from now, things will be fine, and I’ll feel stupid for even doing this, I know. But I’m too anxious right now not to do something.

I don’t even know how to start writing this, but I’ll begin with what happened.

This past Sunday evening, I got a really uncomfortable voicemail from my little sister, Samantha. Even though I’ve been at college for nearly two years, she still calls me every weekend to tell me what’s going on back home in Piedmont, despite the fact that there’s almost never anything going on. Except now, it sounds like there is.

I don’t really know what I’m supposed to say about the voicemail. Just listen to it.

I’d be worried about this either way, but at least there’s a possible explanation. For all of my life, my mother has had a health condition called cardioneurogenic syncope, which is basically an occasional, brief loss of consciousness due to a decrease in blood flow to the brain. Sometimes she faints or falls down, and a couple times we had to take her to the doctor after she hit her head. But it’s not the end of the world.

The weirder part is what’s happened since then… or to be more precise, what hasn’t happened: I can’t get anyone to answer the phone. I tried calling Sam back as soon as I got the message, but she didn’t answer. Neither did our neighbors. I tried all of the other numbers I had – Uncle Kyle, Al’s, the diner, even the police – and not a single answer. There’s probably a good explanation, like phone or electric outages, and I’m just upset over nothing. Kristen says everything is fine.

But the fact is, it’s been more than 24 hours, and I haven’t been able to reach anyone in the entire town, or to make sure that Mom is okay. And while I wish I could just go home and check, I don’t have the money for that sort of thing…and even if I did, I’d have no way to get out to Piedmont unless someone picked me up at the nearest bus stop. And I guess this is kind of stupid, but we’ve been talking about blogs in civic journalism, and I thought maybe if I started one, someone might know something.

So if anyone has any idea why I can’t get in touch with a single person in the town of Piedmont, Utah, can you let me know?

So this could be serious right? Something awful happened and the whole nation doesn’t even know, OH NO! Wait… there is this little link at the bottom of the screen… it says TERMS.

So after doing a little research on just what the hell this whole farce is, it’s basically some sort of advertising platform to showcase A&E‘s new mini-series or movie based around the “Andromeda Strain.” Joy. Wasted a few hour of my life finding this out. After all is said and done there is one thing that is constant and true: With such vague and mysterious billboards and ads, its no wonder the marketing worked, it really feeds off your curiosity! Well done A&E for a good marketing ploy!
